We’re two days into my promise. It’s early enough that I haven’t forgotten it, and I’m busy enough that I can say that it’s not procrastination that’s kept me from learning game development. I’ve been focusing on my novel, and it’s strange how much inspiration can come to you when there’s a whole different task on the edge of awareness:
And what this place was, was an island of sparkling silver ice of perpetual night that swirled among the stars. Spiralling structures of marble and obsidian flowed and twisted, their gentle curves reaching up and out beyond the island and in again. Crystal caught and refracted pinpricks of light from distant suns, gold and red and blue. Shimmering rainbows arced across the night.
I don’t remember when this image first popped into my head. What I do remember is that I’ve avoided writing any scenes set on the island for a long time because I couldn’t be sure that I would do justice to what I saw. Well, here are the bones of it in sixty words with nothing to change.
In other news, I’m enjoying my new laptop. Everything is nicely set-up and I’ve been gaming a little on Steam. Slay the Princess was certainly an experience, with bonus points for its narration by Jonathan Sims (of The Magnus Archives).
